At a Board of Management meeting held last Friday, April 19th Mr Martin Nugent announced that he will be retiring as Assistant Headmaster of Clongowes this summer. On Monday morning, at meetings with staff and also at a special assembly with the boys Mr Nugent informed the school community of the news. At each gathering it was clear from the spontaneous, prolonged and warm response of all present that he is held in the highest regard, esteem and affection by pupils and staff alike.
The Headmaster, Fr Leonard Moloney said:
‘Personally, I will miss him hugely. He has been an enormous support over the past nine years. His competence, commitment, availability and integrity have enriched the school enormously. He will be greatly missed. Thirty-eight of his forty years of happy involvement in teaching have been in Clongowes. Opportunities to say farewell and to congratulate him will arise over the coming weeks and months.
‘Go maire sé an céad.’
While Mr Nugent will remain in office until August 31st the process to secure his replacement has already commenced. An advertisement will appear in both The Irish Times and the Irish Independent later this week and on the website publicjobs.ie and Fr Moloney asks for your prayers for a good outcome to this process.
