New Foundation for an Old School - Clongowes Wood College

Clongowes Wood College Foundation has been re-launched following a short period of inactivity, with a new energetic team. The Foundation’s responsibility is to nurture relationships and secure funding to realise the agreed development plans of the College and the Alberto Hurtado Bursary Programme. The new team comprises:

  • Martin Nugent            Chair of Fundraising
  • Michelle Burke            Fundraising Manager
  • Aine Burns                   Development Officer
  • Imelda Green              Accounts

Martin Nugent is a former Assistant Headmaster and teacher in Clongowes from 1975-2013. Since 1992 he has been involved in Strategic Planning for the future of Clongowes. He retired as Assistant Headmaster at the end of August 2013 to take up the post of Chair of Fundraising.

Michelle Burke (on the right above) joined the Foundation in November 2013, arriving with a proven track record in business having run her own marketing consultancy for many years. Clients included UCD Smurfit Business School, The Merrion Hotel, the National Maternity Hospital, O2 Telefonica and Liberty Insurance in the area of marketing, relationship management, brand and communications.

Áine Burns, who is known to many of our alumni, has worked in the Foundation for the past four years as office and database manager, administrator, and events’ organiser.  Áine has 15 years of experience in a variety of personal assistant, administrative and office management roles in the education sector,  including the University of Ulster and the Institute of Technology, Tallaght.

Foundation Governance

The Clongowes Wood College Foundation is a legal entity and reports to the Foundation Trustees and the College Board of Management. The Board of Trustees, appointed by the Provincial, is as follows:

Michael Ryan (Chairman); Fr. Leonard Moloney SJ; Fr. Michael Sheil SJ; Peter Murphy (Provincial’s Office); William O’Grady (OC 1970). Other trustees may be appointed subject to approval by the Provincial. Mr. Ray Kenny (Director of Finance and Administration) attends meetings.

The role of the Foundation Trustees is to ensure appropriate ethical standards in the workings of the Foundation and to ensure the correct use by the College of all monies raised by the Foundation.
