Exceptional Leaving Certificate Results for Clongowes Students

An air of nervous tension was palpable in the Concourse from mid-morning as boys of Rhetoric 2017 arrived with their parents to collect the envelopes containing their Leaving Certificate Results. Some opted to find a quiet corner to open and examine the results whilst others ripped them open immediately keen to discover what lay within. Tensions soon drifted away as results of a very strong Leaving Certificate were revealed with staff and family on hand to congratulate the boys on a job well done.

I am delighted to report that this year’s results are the best ever achieved by a Leaving Certificate year.  The boys achieved an outstanding 454 points on average.  Some 31 achieved over 500 points, 18 boys scored over 550 points and 6 gained over 600 points.  Two students achieved the maximum 625 points with Conor Galvin, former School Captain, scored an impressive 8 H1 grades – one of only 13 students in the country to achieve such results.

The days that follow will be again anxious as the boys wait for the CAO first round offers. All of us at Clongowes wish them well in their next steps and remind them that, with the wide variety of third level options available, you can reach your goals by many different paths – hard work, dedication and passion will get you there in the end.

The traditional (indoor) BBQ that followed at lunchtime gave the boys and their parents an opportunity to reflect on their individual achievements, to catch up with friends and toast adventures yet to come.
