Hope Springs Eternal - Clongowes Wood College

Posted: 1st March 2018

Later this month (on Thursday 15th March) seven Transition Year students along with Mr Noel Murray and Old Clongownian, Pyers O’Connor Nash (OC’69) will set off for Kolkata ‘The City of Joy’ as part of the HOPE Foundation trip. The purpose of this trip is to visit and engage with students who are in HOPE centres in Kolkata (schools, hospital or crèches) – children that HOPE has rescued from the streets.

HOPE runs over 60 projects in Kolkata, mainly schools, creches, and a fully functioning hospital, which cater for the children living on the streets and slums. The lads have raised €2,400 each which will go directly to the running of these centres, but they still need your help in a different way. They are looking for something small which they can give to the children when they meet them during their stay.

Simple bubbles, stickers, fidget spinners, colouring pencils, small dolls, teddies, face painting kits, small toys in good condition – these all bring great joy and happiness, when the boys meet the children who range in age from 3-16. Shops like Dealz, Choice etc sell some of these items for €1-€2. The boys have a 35kg weight restriction and their plan is to fill them with as many gifts as possible and to have empty bags coming home. If you have any such items please drop them into Reception any time in the coming two weeks.
