H.L. Debating narrowly miss Rigby Jones Final - Clongowes Wood College

Posted: 23rd November 2012

The Higher Line debating team of Billy O’Regan, Tom Cantillon and Jonathan Inglis made it to the final round of the annual Co.Kildare Inter Schools debating competition for the Rigby-Jones trophy, on Thursday, November 22nd. Named after the late industrialist Michael Rigby-Jones, the competition attracts teams from all over the county, including Clongowes. Unfortunately the team did not make it through to the final as they were defeated on a split vote by St.Mary’s Naas. The motion debated was that: This house believes that co-ed schools are better than single sex schools.  Clongowes opposed the motion.
By all accounts it was a great night, and the adjudicators complimented both teams on their delivery.  Well done to St.Mary’s, and also to the Clongowes team.  Further competitions will be in the offing after Christmas!
Thanks to Ms.Anita O’Shea for coaching  the team.
