Clongowes Wood College SJ

Fr Tom Layden, Irish Jesuit Provincial and Old Clongownian (1975) visited Clongowes for four days this week (15th-19th) and met with the students and staff. Fr Layden arrived on Sunday 15th and concelebrated Mass for the Deceased Members of the Clongowes Union – a very moving ceremony, held in the Boys’ Chapel. He spent the next few days meeting various members of the student population and the staff as well as taking some time out in his alma mater.

A high point of Fr Layden’s annual visitation (his sixth) was his celebration of Mass on Wednesday morning for the whole school. Speaking before the liturgy he remarked on his fondness for the school and complimented the students and staff for all the work they do to ensure that Clongowes continues to enjoy success as we enter our third century. Fr Layden concluded with the hope that some of the congregation might discover a vocation and consider devoting their lives to the Society of Jesus, a path that – from personal experience – he could heartily recommend.
