Book Character Dress-up Day.

Thanks to all who got into the spirit and fun of our fourth Book Character Dress-up Day, an event that’s always guaranteed to bring some fun and colour to dull November. Staff embraced it like never before as a variety of characters spilled out onto the corridors and students found that some teachers had morphed into personalities that had walked out of books, bringing to life such characters as Charlie Bucket (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Jay Gatsby (The Great Gatsby), Dick Tracy, The Cat in the Hat and Effie Trinket (The Hunger Games).

Student involvement this year was somewhat disappointing with numbers down on previous years. Mid-term break usually gives the boys an opportunity to prepare but perhaps this year it was a case of out of school, out of mind! Or was it the distraction of the American election? This morning’s result may not have put some of the students in the form for dressing-up! It would have done them the world of good. This was evident in the faces of those who did turn themselves into characters such as Tintin, James Bond, Shmuel (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas), Ross O’Carroll-Kelly, Bozo the Clown, Wally and Joey (War Horse)!

Prizes were presented to the best dressed from each year and the winners were:

Rian O’Donnell (Elements)

Daniel Groome (Rudiments)

Harry Radmall (Grammar)

Matthew Martin (Poetry)

John Lappin (Rhetoric)

and Denis Gibbons (Staff) who all received prizes.

Jane O’Loughlin, School Librarian
