On Monday the 9th of December, the whole Clongowes community joined together in the Ref. for the annual Christmas Lunch. This was the 2nd installment in the Clongowes Christmas celebrations which began with the Christmas Concert on Sunday the 8th of December.
Members of staff were invited by the School Captain, Mikey Mina Ronayne, to join the boys in the various Houses as they enjoy Christmas lunch together. There are ten Houses in Clongowes; Arrupe, Collins, Claver, Gonzaga, Hopkins, Kenney, Kostka, Loyola, Sullivan, and Xavier, that are made up of boys from the various year groups.
A feature of this annual festive event is that the House Leaders serve lunch to fellow students and staff. The task undertaken by the House Leaders is not to be understated – serving a three-course lunch to over 500 people is quite an undertaking but was very efficiently done – all in crisp white shirts and red Santa hats, which brought additional festive cheer to the whole proceedings.
The Ref. staff prepared, as always, a delicious meal – three-courses, with a starter of leek and potato soup, followed by a traditional turkey and ham dinner with all the trimmings including delicious Ballymaloe Cranberry Sauce and homemade gravy. The final course was a dessert of profiteroles and locally produced ice-cream. Headmaster, Mr. Lumb addressed all attendees, giving special thanks to all those involved in the organisation and preparation of the Christmas Lunch. The Headmaster expressed his gratitude to both the Ref. staff and the House Leaders and Prefects, for ensuring everyone got to enjoy such a delicious lunch. The boys very kindly placed a gift for every staff member under the big Christmas tree in the Ref. as a token of their appreciation.
In recognition of their hard work, the House Leaders were invited to dine in the castle later that evening with the Headmaster, Prefects, and the Jesuit Community. As the term draws to a close, we look forward to the Carol Service which will take place next Tuesday the 17th of December. Let the festive celebrations continue![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][ult_buttons btn_title=”See the Gallery for More Images” btn_link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fclongo45.vm002.innermedia.co.uk%2Fdt_gallery%2Fchristmas-lunch-2019%2F||target:%20_blank|” btn_align=”ubtn-center” btn_title_color=”#ffffff” btn_bg_color=”#52426a” icon_size=”32″ btn_icon_pos=”ubtn-sep-icon-at-left”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
