Today, Tuesday September 25th, thirty-two Poetry students will embark on the Kairos journey and will return to Clongowes on September 28th. The beautiful setting and relaxed atmosphere of Maynooth will allow them to delve deeper into their own lives, through prayer and reflection. Time together promotes genuine unity and group cohesiveness to develop. The result is that young people listen and begin to respect the opinions of others without judgement. This is the second year that Clongowes’ Kairos Retreat will be held in ST. Patrick’s College, Maynooth.
The Kairos Retreat is ‘a religious retreat programme grounded in Christian incarnational theology’. Those who go on the retreat (the retreatants) will experience Christian community with a series of testimonies given by peers and adults. Prayer and the sacraments form an essential part of the programme over the three and a half days.
Kairos Retreat is a peer ministry retreat, where 8 Rhetoric students prepare to lead their peers in Poetry. Their preparation commenced last May when they accepted the leadership role. The leaders of Kairos 2012 are: Niall Burke, James Green, Gearoid Kennedy, Cillian Madden,Tiernan O’ Kelly, Mark Reihill, Richard Thomas and Andrew White.
A number of staff will complement the programme. FR. Sheil, Mr Marron and I have been engaged in the training of the leaders and the following staff member will contribute over the three and half days of the retreat Fr. Bradley, Fr. Murray, Mr Carroll, Mr. Bowen, Ms.Cooke, Ms. Doyle, Mr. Kelly and Mr Sharkey.
The Kairos model of retreat helps people to understand the self, others and God, so that when they return to Clongowes, they are able to fulfil their mission on earth to the best of their ability.
We wish all the best to every one involved in this year’s Kairos retreat.
