The third and final event of the Three Counties Developmental Cross Country League took place in Graiguecullen GAA grounds on a bright but bitterly cold Tuesday, November, 28th. The date for this relay event was most unfortunate for us as Pre-Mock Exams and Work Experience deprived us of our Grammar, Rhetoric and Syntax athletes. Nevertheless, our somewhat cobbled-together teams were not daunted and – with some creative team selections – all was well in the end.
The Minor A team of Padraic Spillane, James McNamee, Tom Murtagh and Thomas Breen placed an excellent 2nd in the highly competitive Division 1. This bodes well for the rest of the season and beyond. The Minor B team of Marcus Lyons, Alex Kelly, Miguel Garcia and Inigo Lecumberri played more than just a supporting role as they secured silver in Division 2. Our gallant Juniors, James O’Donohoe, Hugh Hanley, Harry Browne and Roberto Rubioalso brought silver back to Clongowes while our Intermediate team of Fernando Siljestrom, Rian O Domhnaill and ‘special guest’ Padraic Spillane were victorious in their division, collecting gold medals as bright as their smiles!
Special mention has to go to three boys, James McNamee, Padraic Spillane and Fernando Siljestron who filled in for absent or injured comrades by running two relay legs, sometimes in different races! Well done to all involved for a tremendous display of sportsmanship and teamwork.
