Daniel O’Connell Memorial Debate
This year’s Past vs Present Debate for the Daniel O’Connell Memorial Trophy will take place on Wednesday 7th November in the Music Performance Area in Clongowes at 6pm. This annual event always provides an excellent level of debate and an all round good night’s entertainment. (Last year’s past participants pictured above).
This year’s motion is that ‘This house believes that trial by jury should be abolished in all criminal cases’.
The speakers for the present (who will oppose the motion) are Ryan McMahon (Captain), Sean Lysaght, Hugo O’Donnell and Sean O’Grady, while the past will be represented by John Francis Martin (OC’13), Adrian Gahan (OC’97), John Stokes (OC’85) and David Wilkinson (OC’85).
The debate will be chaired by the Chairman of the Clongowes Union, Conor Daly (OC’85) and the adjudicators will include Justice Mary Finlay Geoghegan and Ms. Zita O’Neill
