The Senior Choir struck the right note at the International Choral Festival held in Sligo this weekend. Performing in front of an audience of some eight hundred people, the students scored an overall 82.5%, with renditions of Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’, and Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’.
The choir is no stranger to this festival (now in its 27th year), having participated almost annually over the past few years. This year they were in the company of Wesley College; Sacred Heart School, Tullamore; Scoil Mhuire, Trim; Summerhill College; St. Patrick’s Cathedral Grammar School and St. Paul’s Secondary School.
The standard of all choirs was remarkably high, but the adjudicator’s were most impressed with the intonation, continuity of phrasing and dynamic control exhibited by the Clongowes Choir. Much credit to Baritone extraordinaire, Mr David Scott, who has only very recently taken over the reins of Senior Choir from Ms. Elizabeth Keighary.
