On Sunday 7th December 2008 at 11.15 am the RTE monthly televised Mass was broadcast from Clongowes. The occasion was the celebration of Fr James Aloysius Cullen SJ, past pupil of Clongowes and founder of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association and of the Irish Messenger of the Sacred Heart about 100 years ago. His portrait hangs in the Serpentine.  The main celebrant and homilist was Fr Bernard McGuckian SJ, Spiritual Director of the Pioneers.
